Two recent
Highlands graduates recently announced fans will not see them on the sidelines
at University of Kentucky football games this fall.
Austin
Sheehan is transferring up the road to Georgetown College and Courtney Wiseman
will not be trying out for the Dance Team. Sheehan graduated from Highlands in
2012 and Wiseman in 2013.
Sheehan
spent the past two years at Kentucky as a walk-on wide receiver. The Wildcats
have gone 2-10 overall and 0-8 in Southeast Conference play the past two years.
“I love Kentucky,” Sheehan said. “I just wanted
playing time so starting seeing other options. Georgetown was a good fit so I’m
looking forward to it. It’s about getting the rush of being on the field and
catching touchdowns.”
Sheehan is transferring
to a program that finished 7-4 overall last year and 5-1 in the Mid-South
Conference. The Tigers lost 38-28 to Carroll College (Montana) in the first
round of the National Association for Intercollege Athletics playoffs.
The Tigers
run the Wing-T offense, but do pass out of it a lot. They like to put receivers
in motion.
“We hope he helps us out right away,” said Eddie Eviston, Georgetown Assistant Coach and
former Newport Central Catholic Head Coach. “He was a great high school player. He’d been playing in the Southeast
Conference so it’s not like he hasn’t been doing anything the past two years.”
Eviston
said the staff hopes the Business Adminatration major brings consistency to the
Tigers. Their success depends on proper routes and timing. After that, wide
receivers need to finish plays.
Wiseman
spent the past year on the White Dance Team. They danced at football and women’s
basketball games.
“I have recently applied for UKs Nursing school and don’t
think I could blance both because they are both very time-consuming,” Wiseman said. “I
definitely loved the experience, but have come to matters and understand school
is more important at this point. Although I am very sad to let it go, I believe
it’s the right thing to do.”
Both are
taking final exams this week. Sheehan reports to Georgetown College on June 27
for summer workouts.
