The Highlands Ladybirds are back at .500 following a home win Thursday.

Highlands (11-11) downed the Campbell County Lady Camels, 13-6 for its second win over the Lady Camels this year. The Ladybirds have won three straight following a seven-game losing streak.


Bailey Spencer picked up the pitching win. Spencer struck out two, walked four and allowed just one run.

Highlands outhit Campbell County, 13-11. Whitney Quillen, Haley Coffey, Shelby Graybill, Ashley Grosser, Brennah Dutcher and Rachel Gabbard had two hits each for the Ladybirds. Graybill homered and doubled on her way to five runs batted in and Dutcher doubled. Coffey and Grosser scored three runs each and Quillen added two runs. Dutcher and Quillen had two RBI each.

Highlands travels to Newport Central Catholic in a crucial 36th District contest Friday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Softball:
Bishop Brossart 7, Newport Central Catholic 2:

The Lady Mustangs claimed the rivalry win over the Throughbreds (14-6) on Thursday.

Errors proved to be the difference in this game. NewCath made five compared to none for Bishop Brossart. The Lady Mustangs scored four in the bottom of the third to erase a 2-0 NewCath lead and never looked back.

The Lady Mustangs outhit the Thoroughbreds, 10-7. Kristen Schreiber led NewCath going 3-for-4 with two doubles. Teammate Taylor Burkart and Molly Mertle had one run batted in each.

NewCath takes on Highlands at Newport Vets Field at 5 p.m. Friday in a crucial 36th District contest.

Baseball:
Newport Central Catholic 19, Dayton 1:
The Thoroughbreds (8-17) snapped a 10-game losing streak with the win Thursday. They also earned their first 36th District win in three tries.

NewCath hits the road Friday at Shelby County. Game time is 6 p.m.

Beechwood 7, Highlands 4:

The Tigers rallied for a win Thursday in Fort Mitchell.

Highlands (13-10) led 4-2 entering the bottom of the fifth. But the Tigers scored five innings in that frame to win the game.

The Bluebirds outhit the Tigers, 10-5. Evan Allen and Jake Whitford led the way with two hits each. Allen doubled and tripled with Todd Ramey adding a double.

Highlands plays host to Newport on Friday. Game time is 5 p.m.
