The Newport Central Catholic boys basketball team moved into the All “A” 9th Region title game with a sound 76-61 win over the St. Henry Crusaders on Friday at Bellevue.

Drew McDonald led the Thoroughbreds (16-2) with 24 points. Teammates Jake Schulte and Michael Bueter followed with 14 and 11 respectively. Schulte followed with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Jordan Noble led St. Henry (6-11) with 21 points. The Crusaders have lost four of their last five games.

The win set up a rematch with the in-town 36th District rival Newport Wildcats at 7 p.m. Saturday back at Bellevue. The Thoroughbreds beat the Wildcats, 80-51 at The Hill on Jan. 2.

NewCath led 31-18 at halftime. The Throughbreds kept at least an eight-point lead throughout the contest.

The Wildcats (13-4) have won five in a row since that night. The Wildcats edged defending All “A” and region champion Covington Holy Cross, 55-54 in the other semifinal game.
