The Newport
Central Catholic boys basketball team moved into the All “A” 9th Region title
game with a sound 76-61 win over the St. Henry Crusaders on Friday at Bellevue.
Drew
McDonald led the Thoroughbreds (16-2) with 24 points. Teammates Jake Schulte
and Michael Bueter followed with 14 and 11 respectively. Schulte followed with
eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
Jordan
Noble led St. Henry (6-11) with 21 points. The Crusaders have lost four of
their last five games.
The win set
up a rematch with the in-town 36th District rival Newport Wildcats
at 7 p.m. Saturday back at Bellevue. The Thoroughbreds beat the Wildcats, 80-51
at The Hill on Jan. 2.
NewCath led
31-18 at halftime. The Throughbreds kept at least an eight-point lead
throughout the contest.
The
Wildcats (13-4) have won five in a row since that night. The Wildcats edged
defending All “A” and region champion Covington Holy Cross, 55-54 in the other
semifinal game.
