Highlands Girls Golf Wins Dual Match

Highlands Takes Down Bishop Brossart

The Highlands Bluebirds girls golf team won its first dual match of the season, 204-210 at AJ Jolly Golf Course in Alexandria.

The teams golfed on the front nine holes for a par 35. Junior KJ Toole won medalist honors shooting a two-over 37.

Senior Ellie Rowland shot a 46. Eighth grader Jenna Richey and sophomore Aly Welch rounded out the scoring with 57 and 64 respectively.

"I've definitely seen improvement (from the younger girls) as the year has gone on. Jenna has consistently been downward with her scores, which has been great. (Freshman) Bailey (Markus) has been a little more consistent shooting a 120 or so, which is a little higher than what I know she's capable of," said Mike Lipscomb, Highlands Head Coach. "She's been working really, really hard to get that score down. I really do think it comes down to them being as young as they are. The older girls understand essentially when not try to hit a perfect shot. They just say, 'Alright. I hit a bad shot. I'm going to punch out and take my one extra stroke,' instead of saying, 'I'm going to hit it through the super tiny gap in trees and try to hit a fantastic, amazing shot that a lot of really good golfers wouldn't be able to make. But Ellie and KJ have been really great at helping these girls, especially in practices."

Highlands does not golf again until Aug. 24. The Bluebirds have another dual match against Bishop Brossart scheduled at Highlands Country Club at 3:45 p.m.
