The
Highlands Ladybirds soccer team played the host and defending state champions
tough Saturday.
But Notre Dame scored in the waning minutes of the game to pull off a 2-1 victory. Junior Kylie Schuerman scored the lone goal off an assist from Taylor Vaughn. Vaughn received the ball inside the box and played it to Schuerman inside the 18-foot box. Schuerman then put it in the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Freshman
Olivia McQuery played at goalkeeper in the first half and had three saves.
Sophomore Shannon Eaton played there in the second half and had seven saves.
Highlands
Head Coach Brian Weifering credited freshman Sophie Steppe for moving up from
the junior varsity and playing all 90 minutes at center back. The Ladybirds are
1-2 on the season.
Highlands
takes on Ursuline Academy (Ohio) on Monday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

NewCath
opened the season with huge win on the road.
The Lady
Breds scored their four goals within the first 15 minutes of the game. Taylor
Tolle, Jenna Ahlbrand, Loren Zimmerman and Michaela Ware scored the goals for
NewCath. Sophomore Meg Martin recorded three saves for NewCath.
The Lady
Breds play host to the All “A” 9th Region Tournament next week. They take on
Covington Latin at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Newport Central Catholic wins two:
The
Thoroughbreds (2-0-1) handled the host East Jessamine Jaguars on Saturday, 3-0 and West Jessamine, 5-0 on Sunday in the Visitnich.com Soccerama.
Seth
Freppon, Patrick Louis and Ryan Randle scored the goals for NewCath in the win over East Jessamine. Louis
added an assist. Goalkeeper Paul Grosser had three saves.
NewCath
travels to St. Henry on Tuesday. Game time is
2 p.m.
Louisville Trinity 6, Highlands 0:
The
Bluebirds fell to last year’s state runner-up at Tower Park.
Nick
Breslin had six saves for Highlands.
The
Bluebirds travel to South Oldham on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
