The Newport
Central Catholic soccer teams won their All “A” 9th Region semifinal contests
Wednesday. They scored two goals each and let the defense do the rest.
The
Thoroughbreds finished off the contest against visiting St. Henry with a 2-0
win. NewCath (3-0-1) has won three in a row and has allowed just one goal in
its first four contests.
NewCath
takes on Covington Holy Cross in the region championship game on Thursday. Game
time is 7 p.m.
The Lady
Breds (3-0) held off the Holy Cross Lady Indians, 2-1 at Morscher Field. Taylor
Tolle and Donnelly Simmins scored goals for NewCath. Sophomore Meg Martin had
three saves at goalkeeper.
“We gave up a stupid goal late and missed a penalty
kick,” said Kevin Turnick, NewCath
Head Coach. “There were a ton of shots
we shanked. We didn’t finish very well.”
NewCath
plays for the region title Saturday at 6 p.m. The opponent will be Beechwood.
