The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbreds baseball team advanced in the All “A” 9th Region
Tournament on Saturday.
The
Thoroughbreds run-ruled the Bellevue Tigers, 13-3 in five innings. They scored
six runs in each of the first two innings.
NewCath
outhit Bellevue, 7-3. Spencer Pangallo led the way going 2-for-3 with two runs
batted in, two runs scored and a stolen base.
The
Thoroughbreds stole four bases overall. Mitch Pangallo stole two and Grant
Moeves had the other.
Jake Yeager
picked up the pitching win for NewCath. He struck out six in three innings
pitched.
The Thoroughbreds
(4-5) take on either Ludlow or Covington Holy Cross in the semifinals at 5 p.m.
Monday at University of Cincinnati Medical Center Park in Florence. NewCath won
the All “A” State championship last year.
Baseball:
Highlands splits two in Myrtle Beach:
Highlands
is 7-4 after splitting two games Friday.
The
Bluebirds beat Holland (Ohio) Springfield, 8-3 before losing 11-5 to Fordham
(New York) Prep School. Mitch Jones earned the pitching win against Springfield
and Jake Whitford finished 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three runs batted
in at the plate.
Highlands returns
to 9th Region action Monday against Covington Holmes. Game time is 5 p.m.
