The third
time was not a charm for the Highlands Bluebirds baseball team.
Highlands
(2-1) ventured to Conner on Wednesday and lost 6-0. They were trying to win
their first three games of the season – all against Boone County squads.
Cameron
Ross threw six innings to pick up the win for the Cougars (1-0). He struck out
10, allowed just two hits to Kenny Ball and Ben Vermeil and walked two.
Ball took
the loss for Highlands. He walked three and struck out one in two innings
pitched.
Conner
outhit Highlands, 6-2. Ryan Ward had the big blow for Conner with a three-run
home run in the first inning. Ross and Jared Williams had two hits each and
scored two runs each. Williams added two runs batted in.
Highlands
plays host to St. Henry at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Baseball:
Dixie Heights 8, Newport Central Catholic 2:
The Thoroughbreds
fell to 1-4 with the loss Wednesday.
The
Colonels outhit the Thoroughbreds, 10-0. Matt Wehrle went 3-for-3 with a
double, run batted in and run scored to lead Dixie Heights.
Nick King
picked up the win for Dixie Heights and Tommy Donnelly took the loss for the
Thoroughbreds. King struck out eight and walked one and Donnelly struck out one
and walked two.
NewCath
plays in the McDonalds Classic at Harrison County on Thursday. NewCath faces
Franklin County at 7:30 p.m.
Softball (from Monday):
Harrison (Ohio) 8, Highlands 3:
The Ladybirds
fell to 2-2 with the road loss Monday.
Highlands
returns to action Thursday in 36th District action. The Ladybirds play host to
Bellevue at 5 p.m.
