The
Highlands Bluebirds baseball team opened the season on a high note Friday.
Highlands
traveled to Florence and beat the 1-1 Boone County Rebels, 3-1. Bluebird
pitchers Lou Bunning, Joseph Martin and Joey Cochran combined to throw a
one-hitter and strike out four. Bunning (1-0) picked up the win and Cochran
recorded the save.
Highlands
recorded eight hits. Alex Veneman led the way with a double. Grayson Heck and
Evan Allen had two-out RBI singles.
The
Bluebirds play host to Cooper on Saturday. Game time is 11 a.m.
Softball:
Newport Central Catholic 5, Dayton 3:
The
Thoroughbreds moved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in 36th District action on Friday.
Freshman
Haley Meyers pitched a complete game for NewCath. She allowed just two hits and
stranded the tieing runs on base in the seventh inning.
Alex
Burkart and Lexi Potts led NewCath at the plate. They had two runs batted in
each.
The
Thoroughbreds travel to Beechwood on Monday. Game time is 5 p.m.
Ryle 5, Highlands 1:
The
Ladybirds (2-1) lost for the first time this year at Tower Park. Head Coach Rob
Coffey said it was because Highlands made too many errors.
Highlands
returns to action Monday at Harrison (Ohio). Game time is 5 p.m.
