The
Highlands Ladybirds softball team got back in the win column with a 15-0,
four-inning run-ruling of the Bellevue Lady Tigers on Thursday at Tower Park.
Highlands
(3-2) won the 36th District contest by outhitting Bellevue, 9-0. Eighth-grader
Miranda Mason threw the no-hitter for Highlands striking out 10 and walking
just one.
Mason and
Payton Leighty led Highlands at the plate with two hits each. Mason doubled
twice and Leighty had four runs batted in. Josie Daley added three RBI for
Highlands. Ashley Grosser, Whitney Quillen, Rachel Gabbard and Emily Johncox
scored two runs each for the Ladybirds.
Highlands
plays in the Uncle Pete Noll Invitational at Softball City in Covington over
the weekend. The Ladybirds take on
Campbell County at 6:15 p.m.
Baseball:
Highlands 5, St. Henry 0:
The
Bluebirds moved to 3-1 on the season with the win over the Crusaders. It marked
the first meeting since St. Henry eliminated Highlands in the 9th Region
quarterfinals last year.
Joseph
Martin picked up the win for Highlands and Todd Ramey led the Bluebirds at the
plate. He went 2-for-3 with a double and run batted in.
Highlands
plays in the Little Five Tournament at Lloyd Memorial starting Friday. The
Bluebirds face Dayton at 5 p.m. The winner takes on Ludlow at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Newport Central Catholic 6, Franklin County 0:
The
Thoroughbreds (2-4) opened the McDonalds Classic at Harrison County with a win.
NewCath
outhit Franklin County, 9-5. Jake Pangallo led the Thoroughbreds with three
hits including two doubles to go with two runs batted in and Spencer Pangallo
had two. Zack Pangallo scored twice to lead NewCath.
Jake Yeager
recorded the pitching win for the Thoroughbreds. He struck out nine.
NewCath
continues the tournament Saturday against Scott County. Game time is 12:45 p.m.
in Cynthiana.
