NewCath teams post victories

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds girls basketball team advanced to the All “A” 9th Region semifinals with another sound win.

NewCath (15-2) handled Heritage Academy, 67-20 Wednesday. The Thoroughbreds led 32-4 at halftime.

The Thoroughbreds saw three players reach double-digits. Loren Zimmerman led the way with 13 points and seven rebounds. Teammates Ansley Davenport and Mikayla Seibert followed with 12 and 11 respectively.

NewCath faces Covington Holy Cross (11-3) on Friday at St. Henry. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Basketball, Boys:

NewCath 73, Lloyd Memorial 38:

The Thoroughbreds (12-3) handled the host Juggernauts (4-11) to improve to 7-0 in 9th Region action Wednesday.

Jake Schulte paced NewCath with 13 points. Teammate Grant Moeves followed with 11.

The Thoroughbreds open the All “A” 9th Region Tournament on Monday at Covington Holy Cross against Bellevue. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
