The
Highlands Bluebirds boys basketball team (2-8) fell to 0-4 in 9th Region action
with a 58-51 loss to the Cooper Jaguars (8-6) on Saturday.
Highlands
had two players reach double-digits. They were Brendan Buten and Brandon
Hergott with 20 and 11 respectively.
The
Bluebirds travel to Newport (7-4) on Tuesday for a crucial 36th District
contest. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Louisville Sacred Heart 59, Newport Central Catholic

The
Thoroughbreds (13-2) finished the tough week with a road loss to the Valkyries
(10-3) of the 7th Region.
Nikki
Kiernan finished with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead
NewCath. Teammate Michaela Ware followed with 11 points.
DaiJia
Ruffin led Sacred Heart with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Teammate Raven
Merriweather followed with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Neither
team shot free throws well. NewCath hit 8-of-14 for 57 percent and Sacred Heart
made 6-of-15 for 40 percent.
NewCath
starts the 9th Region All “A” Tournament on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The
Thoroughbreds play host to Villa Madonna (7-5).
