The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbred boys basketball team had little trouble in the
All “A” 9th Region opener Monday.
NewCath
handled the Bellevue Tigers, 82-24 at Covington Holy Cross. The Thoroughbreds
moved to 8-0 against 9th Region competition.
Drew
McDonald led NewCath with 13 points. Teammate Josh Verkamp followed with 10.
The
Thoroughbreds (13-3) battle Ludlow in the tournament quarterfinals at Wednesday
at 7:30 p.m. at Dayton.
Basketball, Girls:
NewCath, Beechwood game cancelled:
The
Thoroughbreds (17-2) and Lady Tigers were slated to meet again Thursday at 7:30
p.m. in Fort Mitchell. That game has been cancelled because NewCath will near
the game limit if it plays four games in the All “A” State Tournament.
NewCath has
just one game scheduled between now and the state tournament. That is at Ryle
on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Highlands, Mason County rescheduled:
The
Bluebirds (13-3) will travel to Maysville on Jan. 29 to face the Mason County
Lady Royals. It is a makeup game snowed out last Thursday.
