Ladybirds snap four-game losing streak

The Highlands Ladybirds snapped their first four-game losing streak since the 2006-07 season with a 65-34 victory over the St. Henry Lady Crusaders on Tuesday.

Highlands (14-7 overall) saw four players score in double figures. Zoie Barth led the way making 3-of-4 three-point shots for 15 points and Brianna Adler also made 3-of-4 three-point shots on her way to 13 points. Lauren Epperson and McKenzie Leigh made two three-point shots each on their way to 12 and 10 points respectively.

St. Henry (9-8) had just one player score in double figures as Chisom Iloegbunam scored 14. St. Henry made just 13-of-41 shots for 32 percent including just 2-of-11 from three-point range for 18 percent. The Lady Crusaders hit 6-of-11 free throws for 55 percent.

On the other side, Highlands hit 21-of-55 shots for 38 percent including 12-of-23 from three-point range for 52 percent. The Ladybirds made 11-of-18 free throws for 61 percent.

The Highlands defense played a huge role in the victory. The Ladybirds recorded 17 steals on 26 Lady Crusader turnovers and yielded just four steals on 15 turnovers.

Highlands also recorded 15 assists in the win. Coffey, Leigh and Izzy Schultz had three each.

The Ladybirds next play in the Republic Bank/Coca-Cola girls Louisville Invitational Tournament at Bellarmine University's Knights Hall. Highlands will play either Bullitt East or Louisville Male at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. A win could match the Ladybirds up against top-ranked Elizabethtown on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
