Hoops Roundup: Bluebirds win, Ladybirds fall on road

The Highlands Bluebirds basketball team (5-9 overall) extended its winning streak to three in a row with a 65-62 overtime home win over the Boone County Rebels on Saturday.

The Bluebirds again had three players score in double figures. Kyle Finfrock led the way with 17 points. Mitch Cain scored 13 and Nick Kendall added 11 for the victors.

Highlands takes on Newport Central Catholic on Tuesday in 36th District action. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Basketball, Girls:
Louisville Mercy 56, Highlands 42:

Highlands (13-7 overall) dropped its fourth in a row to the Jaguars in the Raatz Fence/O'Shea's Classic.

Zoie Barth led Highlands with 17 points and McKenzie Leigh had eight. Highlands made 15-of-47 shots for 32 percent including 4-of-21 from three-point range for 19 percent. The Ladybirds also made 8-of-12 free throws for 67 percent.

Highlands had no answer for Mercy guard Josie Woods. She scored 21 points.

Mercy made 19-of-49 shots for 39 percent including 8-of-22 from three-point range for 36 percent. The Jaguars also made 10-of-18 free throws for 56 percent.

Highlands plays host to St. Henry on Tuesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
