The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbred softball team (5-2) lost its first two game of the season at home Friday.

Warren East came to town and beat NewCath, 6-1 and 7-3. The Thoroughbreds had not played since March 31.

The first game saw Warren East outhit NewCath, 6-2. Katie Gardner and Olivia Price combined to limit the Thoroughbreds to the two hits including an RBI single from Loren Zimmerman in the sixth inning.

Haley Meyers again went the distrance for NewCath. But the Lady Raiders took advantage of four walks, five batters hit by a pitch and two Thoroughbred errors.

The second game was more even as both teams had six hits and two errors. But NewCath left runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Casey Kohls led the Thoroughbreds going 4-for-4 including a two-run blast for her second home run of the season.
