Thursday Sports Briefs

The Highlands Bluebirds softball team won its sixth in a row Thursday with a 3-1 win at Covington Holy Cross. Highlands moved to 13-5 overall.

The Bluebirds take on Boyd County at 8:15 p.m. at Lexington Tates Creek on Friday.

Scott baseball 8, Highlands 6:

The Bluebirds fell in a battle down the road in Taylor Mill.

Highlands saw Todd Ramey lead the way in the hitting category going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Ben Vermeil took the pitching loss.

The Bluebirds travel to Cincinnati Moeller on Saturday. Game time is 11 a.m.

NewCath-Elder Baseball Cancelled:

NewCath’s game at Cincinnati Elder was called off because of an overscheduling of games. The Thoroughbreds play in the All “A” State Tournament on Saturday at Whitaker Bank Ballpart against Glasgow at 10 a.m.

NewCath softball 4, Bishop Brossart 0:

The Thoroughbreds (12-10) won their fouth in a row Thursday scoring three in the first inning and never looking back.

NewCath outhit Brossart, 7-3. Morgan Martini led the way going 2-for-3 with a triple and run batted in.

Sarah Neace pitched another complete game for the Thoroughbreds. She struck out five and walked four while allowing three hits.

The Thoroughbreds travel to Lloyd Memorial on Monday at 5 p.m.
