The
Highlands Bluebirds baseball team run-ruled the Newport Wildcats, 14-0 in five
innings at Highland Park on Monday.
Highlands
(8-8 overall, 1-0 in 36th District play) received another great pitching
performance from Joey Cochran. He allowed just one hit and struck out six in
his third complete game of the year to move to 3-0.
Leadoff
hitter Hector Molina led the Bluebirds going 3-for-3. Molina was also hit by a
pitch and scored four runs. Colin “Frog” Seidl followed going 2-for-3 and Jake
Heck added two runs batted in.
Highlands
plays host to Boone County on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
Newport Central Catholic 12, St. Henry 2:
The host
Thoroughbreds (5-5) won their third in a row run-ruling the Crusaders.
NewCath
outhit St. Henry, 14-5. Zach Pangallo, and Kevin Hoffstedder had three hits for
the Thoroughbreds with Connor Bartels and Colin Dupont pounding out two each.
HoffStedder and Bartels had three runs batted in each with Pangallo and Josh
Cain adding two each. Pangallo also had a double and triple with Bartels and
Tommy Donnelly recording one double a piece.
The
Thoroughbreds also took advantage of eight walks. Alex Grau and Pete Collopy
had two bases on ball each.
Donnelly
picked up the pitching win to move to 1-0. He struck out two in four innings
and Michael Bueter pitched the fifth.
NewCath
plays host to Covington Holmes on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
Softball:
Highlands 8, St. Henry 6:
This marked
the first game for Highlands in 11 days.
Shelby
Graybill, Whitney Quillen and Brennah Dutcher led Highlands going 3-for-4 each.
Highlands (4-3) pouned out 14 hits. Bailey Spencer picked up the pitching win
striking out six.
The
Bluebirds travel to Newport Central Catholic at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Dixie Heights 13, Newport Central Catholic 7:
This marked
a missed opportunity for Newport Central Catholic (3-4).
The
Thoroughbreds led 7-0 after four innings. But the Lady Colonels scored five in
the fifth and eight in the seventh to pull off the win even though NewCath
outhit them, 12-9. Dixie Heights capitalized on five NewCath errors to rally
for the win.
The
Thoroughbreds play host to Highlands at 5 p.m. Tueday.
