The Highlands
Bluebirds opened up play in the Cal Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
with a 4-2 win over Bishop McNamara (Maryland) on Monday.
Highlands
scored two runs in each of the first two innings and held on for the win to
move to 5-5 on the season. Bishop McNamara did not score until scoring twice in
the fourth.
Mitch Jones
picked up the win for Highlands and Jake Liggett picked up the save. Jones
struck out seven and Liggett three.
Highlands
outhit Bishop McNamara, 6-5. Colin “Frog” Seidl and Evan Allen had doubles for
the Bluebirds. Jake Whitford had two runs batted in for Highlands.
The
Bluebirds play two more games today. They face Liverpool (New York) at Noon and
Andrews (S.C.) at 3 p.m.
Newport Central Catholic baseball 3, Beechwood 1:
The
Thoroughbreds (1-4) picked up their first win of the season on the road Monday.
Tommy
Donnelly picked up the pitching win for NewCath and Nick Seibert recorded the
save. The two combined for six strikeouts.
Kevin
Hoffstedder and Zach Pangallo both went 2-for-3 to lead the Thoroughbreds at
the plate. Pangallo had a double.
NewCath
plays two games today. The Thoroughbreds face Dayton at Noon at Morscher Field
before facing Cincinnati McNicholas at Freedom Park at 5 p.m.
Simon Kenton softball 3, NewCath 0:
The
Thoroughbreds (2-1) lost for the first time Monday at home.
NewCath
travels to Bracken County at 5 p.m. today.
