Friday Sports Briefs

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team finished 3-3 on the Spring Break Trip to Myrtle Beach.

Highlands lost 8-3 to Akron Hoban on Friday. Mitchell Jones (2-1) took the pitching loss for the Bluebirds. The game against Lenape (NJ) was cancelled because of rain.

Highlands (7-8) returns to action Monday. The Bluebirds battle Newport at 5 p.m. to open 36th District action in Fort Thomas.

NCC Baseball 3, Bishop Brossart 0:

The Thoroughbreds (4-5) took down the Mustangs in non-district action Friday.

NewCath advanced to the state quarterfinals last year and Bishop Brossart made it to the state semifinals.

The Thoroughbreds outhit the Mustangs just 4-2. Zach Pangallo led NewCath going 2-for-3 with a triple.

NewCath scored all three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pete Collopy had the big hit with a two-run triple.

Connor Bartels picked up the win for NCC. He threw six strong innings striking out 10 and Josh Cain pitched the seventh to earn the save. Cain struck out two Mustangs.

The Thoroughbreds return to action Monday. They take on St. Henry at 5 p.m. in 9th Region play.
