The Highlands Bluebirds volleyball team (25-7 overall) had a chance to equal the win totals from the previous two years and took care of business quickly Tuesday just down the road.

Highlands defeated Bellevue, 3-0 (25-3, 25-12, 25-11) to finish 4-0 in 36th District seed play. The Bluebirds finished 25-11 the previous two years winning two district titles.

"I feel like that hasn't been something we've talked a ton about because we've been so focused on just making a postseason run and knowing the quality of our season would help us get there," said Katelyn Sallee, Highlands Head Coach. "We haven't had a goal for wins. I'm hoping this will be the highest win season we've ever had for me (as head coach) anyway. I think we're on that track."

Highlands hit .307 as a team recording 40 kills on 88 attempts with 13 errors. Highlands senior Ava Hockney led the way with 13 kills.

The Bluebirds experimented with different line-ups. They had 40 assists, 10 aces, 50 digs, one solo block by sophomore Sophia Sarakatsannis to go with four service errors, four pass receiving errors and three general ball-hitting errors.

"I think (different things) is trying to get us ready for next year," Sarakatsannis said. "I think we're all pretty much comfortable with each other. Many of us who will be on varsity next year without the seniors have all played together on (junior varsity) so we're trying to use the momentum from varsity this year to pick it up for next year and be the best we can be."

Senior Casey Dunn had 13 digs to go with six kills. Sophomore CC Shick also had six kills. Senior Audrey Graves and junior Laura Winkler shared the setting roles. Graves had 23 assists, six aces and six digs with Winkler recording 12 assists and five kills. Sophomore Madison Clore added eight digs.

The Bluebirds finish the regular season Thursday at home against Conner. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
