The Highlands Bluebirds volleyball team (3-1 overall) headed to Taylor Mill taking on a Scott program looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Lady Eagles made the Bluebirds earn it. But Highlands came through with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-19) victory. Highlands has only lost at Kings (Ohio), which also beat Scott over the weekend.

"(Scott) made it tough on us defensively and they had some people who could really swing so we had to come in ready to go," said Katelyn Sallee, Highlands Head Coach. "(In) the first set, we took care of business pretty easily. The second and third sets were definitely more of a fight. We found some pockets, some ruts, some adversity that we had to pull through. It got a little tighter than we'd have liked, but we pushed through and took care of it in three sets, which was good to see. It gave us some things to work on for the rest of the week."

The defensive specialists again did their thing for the Bluebirds. Seniors Brooke Biltz and Rylee Kirschenbaum dug up 14 and 13 balls respectively and sophomore Madison Clore had five.

Senior setter Audrey Graves again made things happen with 39 assists for the Bluebirds. She also had nine digs, three aces and four kills. Senior Ava Hockney added three aces.

Highlands did not hit as well as the staff would like to see. The Blubirds landed 40 kills on 111 attempts with 10 errors for a .270 percentage. Sallee likes to see the hitting percentage in the .300 to .400 range.

Highlands also had 40 assists, nine aces, 57 digs, two solo and two combined blocks. The Bluebirds made seven serving, 12 passing, three blocking and two general ball-hitting errors.

Senior Casey Dunn led Highlands with 14 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore CC Shick had eight kills and combined with sophomore Lauren Buemi for two combined blocks. Shick and Buemi had one solo block each. Junior Laura Winkler also turned in a nice game with seven kills.

"Everybody is so together," Shick said. "The seniors do well with keeping the game exciting."

Highlands does not play again until Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Walton-Verona (2-2). Game time is 7 p.m.
