Tuesday Highlands Briefs

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball and softball teams wrapped up undisputed top seeds in 36th District play.

Baseball:
Highlands 10, Bellevue 0:

Highlands (21-8 overall) beat Bellevue, 10-0 on the road. The Bluebirds have won 40 straight against 36th District opponents.

Sophomore Jake Gulley (5-2) threw the first four innings to pick up the win. He struck out seven and walked two. Junior Brennan Haigis threw the final three innings striking out four, walking none and allowing two hits.

Senior Bryce Ziegler led Highlands going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in. Senior Trent Johnson went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Junior Mason Schwalbach added a three-run home run and senior brother Cooper Schwalbach doubled.

Highlands plays Covington Catholic at Highland Park on Wednesday at 5 p.m.


Softball:
Highlands 17, Newport (3 innings):

Highlands moved to 10-5 with the win. This was a make-up game from March.

The Bluebirds travel to Ryle on Thursday for a 5 p.m. contest.
