The Highlands Bluebirds softball team edged the Notre Dame Pandas, 5-4 on Thursday at Winkler Field in a 9th Region victory.
Highlands (12-8) scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bluebirds moved to 7-3 in region play.
Notre Dame did hit better overall going 11-for-31 for a .354 average compared to 8-for-28 for a .286 average for Highlands. But the Bluebirds had four walks to three for the Pandas and Notre Dame committed the game's lone error.
Senior Rachel Gabbard led Highlands at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Sophomore Caroline Class doubled home a run and scored with eighth grader Carly Cramer tripling. Cramer had a run batted in.
Highlands travels to Dixie Heights (16-12) on Friday. Game time is 5 p.m.
