Highlands Volleyball, Freshman Football Team Record Victories

The Highlands Ladybirds volleyball team is headed into the postseason with the most wins since 2010.

Highlands equaled the win total from that team at 22-10 overall with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-17) victory over Bishop Brossart at home. The 2010 team finished 37th and 10th Region runner-up to Newport Central Catholic.

"I hope that everyone carries all our hard work and effort over to the postseason," said Joy Kappesser, Highlands senior right side hitter. "Our confidence is very high."

Sophomore Audrey Graves posted 25 assists and four aces. Casey Dunn and Margot Seidel led Highlands with nine kills each and Ava Hockney had eight. Senior Gracie Schweitzer again led Highlands with 16 digs and Maddie McCoy had three aces.

"I'm so proud of this team," said Katelyn Sallee, Highlands Head Coach. "We have made some big strides this year. We still have lots of work to do."

Highlands enters the 36th District Tournament at Newport on Tuesday as the second seed. The Ladybirds face Dayton at 6 p.m.

Football, Freshman:
Highlands 42, Boone County 6:

The Bluebirds moved to 6-1 on the season with a convincing victory.

Cam Hergott again led Highlands with two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Jason Noe had two receiving touchdowns with Sam Vinson hauling in one and Foster Schuett rushing for another.

Highlands plays at Ryle on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
