Highlands finished with 36 points out of nine teams. Second-place Ryle finished with 72 points.
Highlands sophomore Maria Broering took runner-up honors individually finishing the 3.1-mile race in 20 minutes, 4.6 seconds. Simon Kenton junior Sophia DeLisio won the meet in 19:57.1.
The Birds saw their five scorers finish in the top 14. Senior Karsen Hunter finished seventh in 20:59.2 and senior Savannah Brady took eighth in 21:03.6. Sophomore Alissa Campbell took ninth in 21:12 and Brianna Collins finished 14th in 21:30.1.
Highlands had two sophomores place in the top 35. Nikki McKiernan took 32nd in 23:01.9 and Sarah Pearson finished 35th in 23:08.4.
The Bluebirds finished seventh out of 10 teams with 177 points. Covington Catholic won it with 44 points. Senior Blake Shuley led Highlands finishing 26th in 17:49.6 and seventh-grader Sam Hopper finished 28th in 17:53.
The regional meet is Oct. 28 at Grant County.

For the second straight year, the Colonels won on all three levels completing it with a shut-out of Highlands (3-4) Saturday at Cecil Memorial Stadium.
The Bluebirds did have two fumble recoveries and an interception defensively. Sophomore Hunter Ahlfeld picked off a Colonel pass.
Highlands travels to Cincinnati St. Xavier on Oct. 28. Game time is 10 a.m.
