The Highlands Bluebird soccer team (1-0-1 overall) earned a huge 1-0 victory at Tower Park on Thursday over the St. Henry Crusaders. That snapped a four-game losing streak to St. Henry dating back to 2012. The game was moved up to 5 p.m. after being originally scheduled for 8 p.m. at St. Henry.
Highlands struggled out of the gate the past two years. The Bluebirds did not earn their first victory until six games into the season last year and five games into 2014.
St. Henry outshot Highlands, 11-4. Blake Shuley scored the game's lone goal for the Bluebirds and goalkeepers Paul Tully and Simon Frink combined for the team's second shutout in two games. Tully had seven saves and Frink had four.
Highlands will see how much progress it has made Saturday when the Louisville Trinity Shamrocks come to town for a 7 p.m. contest. Trinity won the 7th Region last year before losing to Covington Catholic, 2-1 in the state quarterfinals.
