Ladybirds earn another huge victory

The Highlands Ladybirds soccer team followed up Saturday's huge road win with another one Monday.

Highlands (2-0 overall) took out the Cincinnati Ursuline Lions, 1-0. The Ladybirds did not beat any team from the Girls Greater Catholic League in two attempts last year.

Senior forward Claudia Hils scored the game's lone goal in the 75th minute. She cleaned up a shot by Maria Wiefering that deflected off a defender. Hils leads the team with three points on the season after recording an assist in the 2-0 road win at Owensboro Catholic on Saturday.

That marks two shutouts by junior goalkeeper Olivia McQueary in two games. Three Highlands defenders in senior Karolyn Lukjan, sophomore Hannah Gish and junior Sophie Steppe played the entire game in the back.

Highlands faces St. Henry (0-1-1) on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Tower Park in the first 9th Region game of the season.
