The state’s
fourth-ranked Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds faced the second-ranked
Ballard Bruins in the Consolation Final on Tuesday.
NewCath led by as many as 13 points with 7:10 left in the game. But Ballard outscored the Thoroughbreds, 28-15 in the final seven minutes to come away with a 77-75 win. NewCath (5-2) could have won at the buzzer but Ben Weyer’s three-pointer fell short.

The
Thoroughbreds had four players reach double digits. Drew McDonald led the way
with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Weyer, Zack Pangallo and Luke Moeves
followed with 18, 15 and 14 points respectively.
Jalen Perry
led the Bruins with 28 points. Teammate Anthony Eaves followed with 26.
NewCath
does not play again for a week. The Thoroughbreds play host to Dayton in 36th
District action.

The
Bluebirds fell to 0-4 with a road loss Tuesday. Parker Harris led Highalnds
with 10 points.
Highlands
plays in the Coach Bob Classic at South Oldham over the weekend. The Bluebirds
battle North Oldham at 4 p.m.
