Hoops Roundup: Thoroughbred girls improve to 4-1

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds girls basketball team bounced back from its first loss Saturday in convincing fashion.

The Thoroughbreds (4-1) took down the host Lloyd Memorial Lady Juggernauts, 69-45 on Tuesday. NewCath stayed undefeated in 9th Region play as a result.

Junior Ansley Davenport led NewCath with 20 points. Michaela Ware and Loren Zimmerman followed with 13 each.

NewCath travels to Scott (4-1) on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Basketball, Boys:
Dixie Heights 50, Highlands 30:

The Bluebirds fell to 0-2 with the road loss. Kenny Ball led Highlands with 12 points.

Highlands travels to Bishop Brossart on Saturday. Game time is 7:45 p.m.

Newport Central Catholic 75, Boone County 43:

The Thoroughbreds improved to 3-0 with a convincing win on The Hill.

NewCath senior standout post Drew McDonald dominated with 28 points. Teammates Zack Pangallo and Ben Weyer added 13 points each.

NewCath takes on Louisville Doss (3-0) on Saturday in the King of the Bluegrass Tournament at Fairdale. Game time is 6 p.m.
