Wednesday Soccer Briefs

The Highlands Ladybirds soccer team continued to struggle Wednesday with another one-goal loss.

Highlands dropped a 1-0 decision to Louisville DuPont Manual in the Lexington Catholic Cup. The Ladybirds (3-8) have six one-goal losses on the season and have dropped four in a row.

Highlands takes on Elizabethtown on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the seventh-place game.

Soccer, Girls:
Newport Central Catholic 3, Beechwood 1:

The Lady Breds (9-0-1) defeated the Lady Tigers for the second time this season.

Loren Zimmerman, Taylor Tolle and Becca Collopy scored the NewCath goals. MiKayla Seibert and Donnelly Simmins had the Lady Bred assists and sophomore goalkeeper Meg Martin had one save.

NewCath takes on Bishop Brossart on Saturday in the All “A” Sectional Tournament at Morscher Field. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

The Thoroughbreds (6-5-3) dropped a one-goal decision to the Mustangs for the second straight year in the All “A” Sectionals. Bishop Brossart went on to win the All “A” State Tournament.

Paul Grosser had another great game in net for NewCath. He made five saves.

The Thoroughbreds partake in the Tribe Shootout at Madison Central starting Thursday. They take on Woodford County at 8 p.m.
