Tuesday Sports Briefs

The Highlands Ladybirds volleyball team handled the Lloyd Memorial Lady Juggernauts, 2-0 (25-13, 25-7) on Tuesday in 9th Region action.

Senior Jessica Ginter again led the way with 12 kills, seven digs and two aces. Setter Kaitlin Hall had 15 assists, two aces and six digs. Sydney Kroger added six digs.

Highlands (7-9) plays host to Campbell County on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Soccer, Boys:
Highlands 0, Cincinnati Anderson 0:

The Bluebirds recorded their sixth straight shutout, but could not score. Highlands (3-6-5) recorded its third scoreless tie of the year.

Highlands outshot Anderson, 16-10. Nick Breslin made seven saves at goalkeeper for the Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds return to action Wednesday. They take on Campbell County at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Newport Central Catholic 10, Villa Madonna 0:

The Thoroughbreds (9-6-3) recorded their second straight win with a 10-0 smashing of the visiting Blue Lightning. The game ended with 18 minutes left.

Logan Muck and Seth Freppon scored two goals each for the Thoroughbreds. Jacob Hensley, Kyle Bleser, Noah Connolly, Patrick Louis and Brian Anderson had the others. Villa Madonna had an own goal.

Ryan Randle had four assists for NewCath and Louis had two. Ryan Hans, Cameron Hoover and Eddie Schultz added one each.

Villa Madonna did manage three shots. But senior goalkeeper Nathan Grosser stopped all of them.

NewCath travels to Conner on Oct. 2. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
