Highlands (8-5 overall) lost to the Knox Central Panthers (11-2) by a 66-53 score in the third place game. The Bluebirds made the semifinals of the winners bracket with wins over two Alabama squads before losing to Lexington (South Carolina) in the semifinals.
Senior Ryan Leigh led the Bluebirds with 17 points making four three-pointers. Senior post Ben Sisson had 16 points to go with seven rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.
The Panthers saw three players score in double figures. Senior guard Dane Imel led the way with 18. Nick Martin added 17 and Jaylen Adams scored 16.
Highlands made 19-of-51 shots for 37 percent including 4-of-16 three-point shots for 25 percent and 11-of-21 free throws for 52 percent. Knox Central made 24-of-55 shots for 44 percent including 2-of-10 three-point shots for 20 percent and 16-of-24 free throws for 67 percent.
The Bluebirds won the rebounding battle, 39-34. Senior Alex Starkey also had seven rebounds for Highlands.
The Bluebirds also had 15 assists, three steals, four blocked shots, 21 fouls and 21 turnovers. The Panthers had nine assists, four steals, two blocked shots, 16 fouls and 12 turnovers.
Highlands takes on Scott (6-5) in Taylor Mill on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
