Ladybird Soccer Shuts Out Boone County

The Highlands Ladybirds soccer team (13-4-1 overall) pulled away from the Boone County Lady Rebels in the second half for a 3-0 9th Region victory.

Highlands had 14 shots to three for the Lady Rebels. Maria Broering scored two goals for the Ladybirds and Lindsey Meyer scored the other one and had an assist. Lauren Deckert and Maria Wiefering added assists.

Highlands sophomore Maggie Hinegardner played the first half in goal and 25 minutes of the second half. She made two saves before Jasmine Rehberger played the final 15 minutes and made one.

The Ladybirds finished the regular season 9-1 in 9th Region action. They travel to Cincinnati St. Ursula on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. game.

Soccer, Boys:
Cincinnati LaSalle 2, Highlands 0:

The Bluebirds saw their three-game winning streak snapped on the road to drop to 10-5 overall. They take on Lexington Henry Clay at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Volleyball:
Highlands 3, Covington Holy Cross 0:

The Ladybirds took care of the host Lady Indians, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22) for the third time this season. They moved to 16-7 overall and 9-4 in 9th Region action.

Casey Dunn had four aces, 10 kills and 11 digs for Highlands with Ava Hockney contributing three aces, 13 kills and two blocks. Audrey Graves had 32 assists and 11 digs with Margot Seidel recording 10 kills and 12 digs. Gracie Schweitzer had 11 digs for the Ladybirds.

"All year, I've talked about our composure," said Katelyn Sallee, Highlands Head Coach. "But I feel like we've added to that with our confidence and expectation that we're going to take care of business. Whereas I feel like in previous years, it was just a little different. We're still working really hard for those wins. I think that brings a whole new level of competitiveness to our team."

Highlands plays in the Jefferson County Invitational Volleyball Tournament at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center in Louisville. The Ladybirds face Cooper at 6:30 p.m. and Whitefield Academy at 8:30 p.m.

Football, Freshman:
Covington Catholic 14, Highlands 12:

The Bluebirds (3-1) lost a tight one to the Colonels at David A. Cecil Memorial Stadium. Joe Buten scored both Highlands touchdowns.

Highlands plays at Conner on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
