The Highlands Bluebirds soccer team may have finished off a rough week at 0-3. But Highlands (4-3 overall) did find some positives in their 2-1 loss at the Trinity Shamrocks on Saturday.

Highlands put up a better fight against Trinity than in recent years. The Shamrocks won the 7th Region three straight years including a runner-up finish in 2013 before Louisville Collegiate beat them in the 7th semi-finals last year.

Last year, Trinity handled the Bluebirds, 7-0 at Tower Park and 8-1 in Louisville in 2015 on its way back to the state quarterfinals. The Shamrocks also shut out the Bluebirds, 6-0 in 2014 on their way to another state quarterfinal appearance.

Highlands outshot Trinity, 11-6 putting four on goal while the Shamrocks put five on goal. Junior Will Burnham had two saves for the Bluebirds and senior Joe Broering scored the Bluebirds' lone goal.

Highlands takes on Newport Central Catholic on Tuesday. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at the Morscher Sports Complex.
