Ladybirds Wrap Up Top Seed

The Highlands Ladybirds soccer team finished off the top seed in the 36th District Tournament with a 4-0 win over Newport Central Catholic at Morscher Field on Wednesday.

Highlands (12-4-1 overall) moved to 9-1 in 9th Region play with its 11th shut-out of the season. The Ladybirds outscored their four district opponents by a combined 41-0.

The Ladybirds had 16 shots to seven for NewCath. Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Hinegardner had seven saves including two spectacular ones.

Highlands scored two goals in each half. Maria Wiefering, Tatum Price, Lauren Deckert and Maggie Stieby had the goals. Maria Broering had two assists.

The Ladybirds play host to Boone County on Thursday. Game time is 8 p.m.
