The battle
of 9th Region contenders turned out a sloppy performance Thursday on the Hill.
The
defending region champion and state runner-up Notre Dame Pandas (16-7) bested
the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbred girls basketball team (21-4) by a
low-scoring 39-26 count. The Thoroughbreds led just 17-15 at halftime.
Both teams
saw just one player reach double-digits. Paige Kellum led Notre Dame with 14
and Nikki Kiernan had 10 points and eight rebounds.
NewCath
returns to action Tuesday when Covington Holmes (17-6) ventures to The Hill.
