The
Highlands Bluebirds girls soccer team picked up another huge win in the
Lexington Catholic Cup on Wednesday.
The
Bluebirds (4-4-3) knocked off the Notre Dame Pandas, 2-1 in a shootout to snap
a four-game losing streak to their 9th Region rivals. Notre Dame beat
Highlands, 3-0 on Aug. 29 at Tower Park.
Highlands
won 4-1 on penalty kicks. Brooklynn Rivers, Allyson Bridwell, Kiersten Clukey
and Kayla Nehus made them for the Bluebirds. Taylor Vaughn scored the goal for
Highlands and goalkeeper Sarah Owen recorded four saves.
The
Bluebirds play in the championship game Saturday against either the hosts or
Louisville Sacred Heart. Game time is 8 p.m.

Newport Central Catholic 1, Bishop Brossart 0:
The Lady
Breds are headed back to Elizabethtown for the first time since 2007 with the
huge win.
NewCath (8-1-1)
won its fourth in a row with a tight victory over its big rivals in the All “A”
Sectional Tournament on Wednesday. Lady Bred Freshman Becca Collopy scored the game’s
only goal.
NewCath
goalkeeper Meg Martin saved all 13 Lady Mustang shots. Bishop Brossart outshot
NewCath, 13-6.
The Lady
Breds play at Dixie Heights on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
