The first
game of the Lexington Catholic Cup was and at least the second game will be
about second chances for the Highlands Bluebirds girls soccer team.
Highlands
(3-4-3) equaled last year’s win total with a 3-1 victory over the Woodford
County Lady Yellow Jackets on Monday. Woodford County came to Tower Park on
Saturday and left with a 1-0 win. Highlands did not win any games in the tournament last year.
The loss
snapped a three-game winless streak for Highlands. The Bluebirds had not scored
in those games.
Lydia
Graves, Kiersten Clukey and Brooklynn Rivers scored goals for Highlands.
Teammates Brooke Dougherty, Allyson Bridewell, Rivers and Peyton Bankemper
tallied assists.
Woodford
County took just three shots. Highlands goalkeeper Sarah Owen saved two of them.
Highlands
returns to Lexington on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to face 9th Region rival Notre
Dame. The Pandas (7-1-1) won the Aug. 29 meeting at Tower Park, 3-0.
Volleyball:
Highlands (4-10) returns to 36th District action
Tuesday at Dayton. Game time is 7 p.m.

Tigers came to Fort Thomas and took a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-15) victory
