The first game of the Lexington Catholic Cup was and at least the second game will be about second chances for the Highlands Bluebirds girls soccer team.

Highlands (3-4-3) equaled last year’s win total with a 3-1 victory over the Woodford County Lady Yellow Jackets on Monday. Woodford County came to Tower Park on Saturday and left with a 1-0 win. Highlands did not win any games in the tournament last year.

The loss snapped a three-game winless streak for Highlands. The Bluebirds had not scored in those games.

Lydia Graves, Kiersten Clukey and Brooklynn Rivers scored goals for Highlands. Teammates Brooke Dougherty, Allyson Bridewell, Rivers and Peyton Bankemper tallied assists.

Woodford County took just three shots. Highlands goalkeeper Sarah Owen saved two of them.

Highlands returns to Lexington on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to face 9th Region rival Notre Dame. The Pandas (7-1-1) won the Aug. 29 meeting at Tower Park, 3-0.
