Bluebirds Fall to Camels

Huge Deficit Too Much to Overcome for Hosts

PHOTO: Allen Ramsey, DWCPhoto.com. Highlands students played the NKY Special Olympics Team called the Northern Kentucky Phantoms in between the junior varsity and varsity games against Campbell County on Saturday.
The Highlands Bluebirds boys basketball team (11-12 overall) came within five in the fourth quarter, but could not pull off the huge win over the Campbell County Camels (20-4) losing 73-54 in Fort Thomas on Saturday.

Highlands has lost four in a row in the series against the Camels. The Bluebirds last beat Campbell County, 56-52 in Fort Thomas on Jan. 17, 2013.

Robby Gabbard led Highlands with 12 points and sophomore Hunter Ahlfeld scored 11. Highlands made 20-of-46 shots for 43 percent including 4-of-13 from three-point range for 31 percent and 10-of-13 free throws for 77 percent.

Campbell County made 28-of-59 shots for 47 percent including 4-of-10 from three-point range for 40 percent and 13-of-18 free throws for 72 percent. The Camels also won the rebounding battle, 35-28. Campbell County led 41-23 at halftime.

Highlands won the junior varsity game, 49-46.

The Bluebirds do not play again for a week when Lloyd Memorial (9-13) comes to Fort Thomas. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
