Thursday Highlands Results

Highlands Softball Falls in Extra Innings

The Highlands Bluebirds softball team (1-4 overall) held the 3-2 advantage going into the seventh inning after neither team scored in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

But the Boone County Lady Rebels (8-1) scored four in the seventh inning to take a 6-3 lead. Highlands scored three times in the bottom of the frame to send it to extra innings.

Both teams had their chances to win. But Boone County scored three times in the top of the 11th and held on for a 12-10 9th Region victory. Highlands is 0-2 in region play.



Highlands outhit Boone County, 16-9. Both teams committed six errors.

Junior Piper Macke and senior Rachel Gabbard led Highlands with three hits each. Gabbard drove in three and Macke scored twice. Junior Abby Rust and sophomore Caroline Class added two hits. Rust scored three times. Freshman Anna Greenwell hit a two-run home run and scored three times with Macke scoring twice. Sophomore Brianna Tharps had a double.

Sophomore Karys Black did the most damage for Boone County. She homered twice driving in three including a two-run blast in the top of the 11th.

Teams have a runner go to second base in extra innings. Highlands left 11 runners on base and Boone County left 11.

Highlands travels to Cincinnati (Ohio) McNicholas on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Baseball:
Campbell County 4, Highlands 1:

The host Camels (9-8) scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and made the lead stand up against the Bluebirds (9-4) in the Doc Morris Invitational.

Campbell County outhit Highlands, 7-6. Senior Casey Greene led Highlands with two hits. Senior Trey Gabbard scored the lone Bluebird run in the top of the seventh inning.

Highlands travels back to Alexandria on Friday to face Paintsville (10-5) on the second day of the Doc Morris Invitational. Game time is 7:45 p.m.

Tennis:
Highlands teams Sweep Scott:

Both the Highlands tennis teams swept Scott at Tower Park. The Highlands boys (6-1) won 3-0 and the Highlands girls won 4-0.

The Highlands girls face Boone County on Tuesday at Tower Park at 3:45 p.m. The Highlands boys take on St. Henry at Tower Park on Friday at 3:45 p.m.
