Highlands Softball Rises Above .500

Bluebirds Put up 10 Hits Against Tigers

For the first time this season, the Highlands Bluebirds softball team (5-4 overall) moved above .500 on the season with a 6-0 win over the Loveland (Ohio) Tigers (3-14) from the East Cincinnati Conference.

Highlands has won four in a row with the first shutout of the season Tuesday. The Bluebirds moved to 2-1 against Ohio opponents.

Highlands batted .384 (10-for-26) as a team compared to .280 (7-for-25) for Loveland. The Bluebirds scored twice in the first inning and never looked back.

Freshman Gracie Schlosser (2-1) pitched the complete game to pick up the win. She struck out six and walked one. Neither team committed an error.

Junior Brittney Johnson led Highlands at the plate going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Junior Abby Rust followed going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior Rachel Gabbard, junior Kendall Murray and freshman Anna Greenwell had doubles.

Highlands travels to St. Henry on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
