Facing a Hoosier State Opponent


Ladybirds drop close one

The Highlands Ladybirds came up just short against the Plainfield (Indiana) Quakers, 61-55 at Dixie Heights on Saturday. The game took place as part of the Hoops for Harvest Classic.

Highlands (1-2 overall) saw sophomore point guard Zoie Barth score 21 points and senior Jenna Martin score 12. But the Quakers outrebounded the Ladybirds, 32-19.

Three players scored in double-digits for Plainfield. Kayla Casteel led the way with 17 points and Riley Blackwell scored 14 points to go with eight rebounds. Samantha Olinger followed with 11.

Plainfield, located near Indianapolis, made 23-of-41 shots for 56 percent including 5-of-12 from three-point range for 42 percent and 10-of-13 free throws for 77 percent. Highlands hit 18-of-53 shots for 34 percent including 6-of-21 from three-point range for 29 percent and 13-of-17 free throws for 77 percent.

The game saw seven lead changes. Plainfield's largest lead was eight points.

Highlands travels to Walton-Verona on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
