Different Road Results

Ladybirds hand Conner first loss of season

The Highlands Ladybirds basketball team (4-2 overall) earned its third straight victory with a 54-36 road win over the Conner Lady Cougars (5-1) on Tuesday.

Highlands again controlled the rebounding at 43-34. That helped the Ladybirds make 19-of-47 shots for 40 percent including 4-of-15 from three-point range for 27 percent. They also hit 12-of-16 free throws for 75 percent.

"We rebounded really well," said Hanna Buecker, Highlands sophomore post. "That lets us slow the game down to where we take good shots. It's been a really fun season."

Conner made 13-of-54 shots for 24 percent including 4-of-12 three-point tries for 33 percent. The Lady Cougars also made just 6-of-17 free throws for 35 percent.

The Highlands guard tandem of Jenna Martin and Zoie Barth again led the way with 17 and 14 points respectively. Both hit 5-of-11 shots with Martin making all six free throws and tallying four assists. Barth recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and Martin had nine.

Senior Lauren Epperson also hit double figures for Highlands with 10. She also grabbed seven rebounds.

Conner had two players score in double figures. Maddie Burcham led the way with 13 points and Savannah Jordan had 10.

Highlands plays host to Bishop Brossart on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Basketball, Boys:
Williamstown 74, Highlands 58:

The Bluebirds (1-4 overall) dropped a road decision against the Demons (2-4). Senior Bryce Traylor led Highlands with 12 points and Braden Posey had nine.

Chase Good led Williamstown with 20 points. Teammates Wenzie Fox and Breenan Stanley followed with 15 and 14 respectively.

The difference in the game came at the three-point line. Williamstown made 17-of-26 for 65 percent and Highlands hit 8-of-28 for 29 percent.

Highlands hits the road against another 32nd District opponent on Thursday in Walton-Verona (3-3). Game time is 7:30 p.m.
