Facing Balanced Teams

Pioneers handle Bluebirds

The Highlands Bluebirds basketball team (2-6 overall) ran into a balanced 6-1 Simon Kenton Pioneer squad Wednesday and lost 89-65 in the first round of the Simon Kenton Invitational.

Sophomore Ben Sisson led Highlands with 12 and junior Robby Gabbard had 10. The Bluebirds made 9-of-16 free throws for 56 percent and the Pioneers hit 15-of-17 for 88 percent.

Simon Kenton saw four players reach double figures and 11 players score. Junior Zach Kelch led the way with 21 points and Jon Sergent scored 18. Senior JC Hawkins had 15 points to go with eight assists and six rebounds and junior Andrew Robinson had 10.

Highlands faces Lloyd Memorial (6-2) to continue the tournament at 3:45 p.m.
