Bluebirds Finish Regular Season with Win |

"We treated it like another game," said Jaime Walz-Richey, Highlands Head Coach. "We wanted to execute. We wanted to fine-tune things and get ready for Tuesday. We really worked on ourselves. We wanted to make sure all five of us were on the same page."
Highlands saw eight players score. Senior guard Piper Macke led the way with 14 points. Juniors Emma Riccobene and Rory O'Hara added 12 and 10 points each.
The Bluebirds made 23-of-51 shots for 45 percent including 6-of-19 from three-point range for 31 percent and 11-of-13 free throws for 85 percent. Highlands had 32 rebounds, 11 fouls, seven turnovers, 17 assists and 11 steals.
Beechwood did not see any player score more than five points. The Tigers made 6-of-27 shots for 22 percent including 3-of-16 from three-point range for 18 percent and 5-of-10 free throws for 50 percent. The Tigers also had 15 rebounds, 10 fouls and 15 turnovers.
"We wanted to go out with a win," said Rylee Thomas, Highlands senior. "We focused hard on defense and forcing them to go left and it ended up working. The real season starts next week. We had to get better."
Highlands takes on Bellevue in the 36th District semifinals on Tuesday. Game time is 7:45 p.m.
