Thursday Sports Briefs

The Highlands Bluebirds softball team fell to Ryle for the second time this year, 11-1 Thursday to fall to 14-9 overall.

Highlands could not keep up with Ryle standout pitcher Ali Crupper. She struck out 11.

Brennah Dutcher led Highlands at the plate going 2-for-3. Shelby Graybill added a double.

The Bluebirds play host to Notre Dame on Monday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Baseball:

Cincinnati Anderson 4, Newport Central Catholic 3 (eight innings)

The Thoroughbreds (17-11) fell in their first game since winning the All “A” State championship just across the Ohio River.

Colin DuPont and Jake Yeager led NewCath with two hits each. Josh Cain added a double.

NewCath travels to Cynthiana to play in the Judy Construction Tournament at Harrison County. The Thoroughbreds face Lawrence County at 7:45 p.m. tonight.

Cancellation:

The NewCath softball team (12-10) was to face Campbell County. But it was rained out.

The Thoroughbreds travel to Conner on Monday. Game time is 5 p.m.
