Highlands Faced Conner for First Time Since 2006 |

It ended up being the third Cougar win all-time against the Bluebirds. Conner last defeated Highlands, 29-26 in the second round of the playoffs in 1993.
The Bluebirds own 21 wins against the Cougars. Highlands had won nine in a row in the series including 35-0 and 42-0 shutouts in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
Honoring Lorenzen:
The University of Kentucky band came to the game and performed before the game making a formation that looked like Kentucky. Members of the late Highlands quarterback Jared Lorenzen stood at midfield including his daughter Taylar, a senior at Highlands, and his son Tayden. The band also performed at halftime and after the game.
His number 22 was officially retired. Highlands senior quarterback Collin Hollingsworth wore that number at a home game earlier this season honoring Lorenzen.
Volleyball Results:
Highlands (19-3) went 1-1 on the first day of the Jefferson County Volleyball Invitational at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center.
The Bluebirds defeated Owensboro Apollo, 2-0 (25-11, 26-24) and lost to Dixie Heights, 2-1 (27-29, 25-21, 17-25). In the win over Apollo, Highlands had 23 kills, one solo block from sophomore middle blocker CC Shick, an assisted block by Shick and senior outside hitter Casey Dunn, 23 assists, 48 digs and three aces.
Senior setter Audrey Graves had 23 assists, eight digs and two kills against Apollo with senior middle blocker Ava Hockney and Shick recording seven kills each. Senior defensive specialists Rylee Kirschenbaum and Brooke Biltz had 12 and 10 digs respectively.
In the loss to Dixie Heights, Highlands had 39 kills, 12 total blocks, 59 digs and three aces. Dunn had 13 kills, one solo and one assisted block and 20 digs. Hockney had nine kills, two solo and two assisted blocks. Graves had 39 assists and five digs with Shick recording six kills, three solo and one assisted block. Kirschenbaum had 20 digs and Biltz had two aces.
Highlands concludes the tournament Saturday.
Incorrect. Conner last beat Highlands in the 2nd Round of the KHSAA AAA playoffs in 1993 (26-23?). Which also turned out to be Tom Duffy's last game as head coach.
