Highlands Faced Conner for First Time Since 2006

The Highlands Bluebirds and Conner Cougars had not met since 2006.

It ended up being the third Cougar win all-time against the Bluebirds. Conner last defeated Highlands, 29-26 in the second round of the playoffs in 1993.

The Bluebirds own 21 wins against the Cougars. Highlands had won nine in a row in the series including 35-0 and 42-0 shutouts in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

Honoring Lorenzen:

The University of Kentucky band came to the game and performed before the game making a formation that looked like Kentucky. Members of the late Highlands quarterback Jared Lorenzen stood at midfield including his daughter Taylar, a senior at Highlands, and his son Tayden. The band also performed at halftime and after the game.

His number 22 was officially retired. Highlands senior quarterback Collin Hollingsworth wore that number at a home game earlier this season honoring Lorenzen.

  1. Incorrect. Conner last beat Highlands in the 2nd Round of the KHSAA AAA playoffs in 1993 (26-23?). Which also turned out to be Tom Duffy's last game as head coach.
