Highlands Middle Dance Wins State Crown

HMS Claims Top Prize in Pom Routine
Contributed Photo. The Highlands Middle School Dance Team recently won a KDCO State championship in the Pom routine.
The Highlands Middle School Dance Team won a state championship in the KDCO State Dance Competition in Frankfort on Feb. 25.


The team won the state championship in the Pom routine out of eight region champions from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Large Middle School Division. This is the second straight year  the team has won a state championship in the division. The Hip-Hop routine finished fourth out of 12 teams marking a two-place improvement from last year's finish.

"Every single team member worked tirelessly all season to get to the level that they did with only the expectation of doing their best and improving as a team," said Sam Reynolds, Highlands Middle School Dance Team Head Coach. "They are the most kind, poised and mature group that were all good friends in and out of the gym, pushing each other and supporting each other all season."

The team consist of 18 members. They are Madeline AdamsMadeline Buecker, Katie Deshler, Belle Fisher, Madison Gillman, Emily Heilman, Samantha Heilman, Olivia Hoffman, Kameryn James, Savannah King, Macy Kocher, Madeline Lecky, Lucy New, Kayleigh Nicolaus, Kathleen Price, Ruby Smith, Makena Wiefering and Katie Wilson.
