Highlands Baseball, Girls Tennis Play Monday

Bluebirds Drop Season Opener

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team started the season off with a 5-2 home loss to Cincinnati Elder of the Greater Catholic League South.

Elder outhit Highlands, 6-4 and took advantage of two Bluebird errors while committing none. Michael Bittner went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in for the Panthers. Max Lenhardt added two hits including a double and Drew Klaserner scored twice.

Danny Niemen picked up the pitching win for Elder. In two innings, he struck out three and walked five.

Elder scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Hunter Dreves took the pitching loss for the Bluebirds.

Grant Summers and Trey Gabbard had doubles to lead the Bluebirds. Sam Hennigan and Bryce Ziegler had stolen bases.

Highlands travels to Dayton on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Tennis, Girls:
Ryle 4, Highlands 1:

The Bluebirds lost on the road at Ryle to fall to 2-1 on the season. Highlands ventured there after both Pendleton County teams could not make it. Highlands plays Conner at Tower Park on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
